The main attraction in Valjoly is its stunning natural surroundings. Described as a more natural French Center Parcs, Valjoly offers guests a welcome break from the hectic rat race. The lake is home to a vast range of activities to take part in, including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, pedalo trips, and swimming.
The sparkling waters are surrounded by pretty green grass areas and the dense woods of the Nostrimont forest where guests can wander signposted walks for hours before enjoying a picnic, as well as sunbathing in the warm French sun during the summer season. The resort also offers bicycle hire, and animal lovers can go for a horse ride, trekking through the shallows of the lake.
Exhilaration and Relaxation
For more adrenaline fuelled activities there is adventure tree trekking, giving guests the chance to monkey around in the tree tops. Guests can practice their aim with archery and laser tag, before a peaceful game of mini golf. If energy still abounds, there are trampolines to play on and the resort even has its own small freshwater aquarium, boasting up to 50 species of local fish.
The resort also offers two outdoor and three indoor swimming pools with a wave machine and slides. Although note, outdoor pools are only open in the summer season, and a strange rule means swimming trunks are not allowed only lycra swimwear is approved for the pools. For guests looking to relax in Valjoly, there is a luxurious spa to visit for ages 15 and upwards. Visitors can relax in the sauna, bubble pools and Turkish bath.
Day Tripping
For visitors looking to explore the region surrounding Valjoly, the small villages of Willies and Eppe-Sauvage are a walk away, and the town of Avesnes-sur-Helpe is a short drive away. Daytrips to Maubeuge will be rewarded with a zoo and pretty architecture to discover. Maubeuge also offers a good range of restaurants to sample when palates are craving something different. There is also a range of museums nearby, including local glass, marble and pottery museums.
