Located in the beautiful Vendée region of western France, on the Atlantic coast, Saint Jean de Monts is the ideal holiday location for those wanting to explore the outdoors. There is a huge range of activities available, as well as plenty of opportunities for visitors to simply relax.

Madame Vacances offers its guests the ideal opportunity to stay right in the centre of the best that this region has to offer. The Résidence Les Ségalières includes several apartments and cottages nestled amongst the beautiful trees of the surrounding natural park. The residence includes a swimming pool and fitness area at the guests' disposal, ensuring a comfortable stay is had by all.

Settled in the northern part of the Causses du Quercy Natural Regional Park, Rocamadour is conveniently located for exploring the neighbouring towns and villages within the park. However, Rocamadour itself is overflowing with places and points of interest to keep you busy during your stay.

Cité Réligieuse

Rocamadour is most known for its popularity for religious pilgrimages since the 11th Century to worship the Black Madonna. The Cité Réligieuse is built into the cliff face, making it an impressive sight to behold in itself, and is home to the Saint Sauveur Basilica and the crypt of Saint-Amadour. The basilica is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and includes several chapels overlooking unforgettable views of the surrounding area and can be reached by a climb of no less than 289 steps, the same steps climbed by the pilgrims to worship the statue of the Black Madonna, which still stands there today.

Walk on the Wild Side

Being in a natural park, visitors in Rocamadour will find it easy to immerse themselves in the rich natural environment of this region. One of the highlights here is the Foret des Singes, or Monkey Forest, which sees over 150 macaque monkeys roaming free through the forest. With experienced guides readily available to tell you everything you need to know about the monkeys, and a chance to stroke and feed them, this really is a unique experience to try.

The Rocher des Aigles Ecopark also gives visitors a chance to learn about the region's wildlife of the sky. Witness bald eagles, vultures, falcons and many more soar through the skies, and find out about the park's impressive conservation efforts for a whole variety of species.

Caves and Caverns

The huge cavern of Padirac is just a 20 minute drive from Rocamadour and is a must visit when in the area. One look at the dramatic itself is impressive enough, but visitors also have the opportunity to explore the gorge even further. Take a boat tour through the various lakes and hollows in the cave, and climb twisting staircases to witness the cave from a whole new angle. This is a unique chance to appreciate the beauty of France from beneath the surface.
