The local area is also home to farms growing lettuce, artichokes, apricots and olive trees, meaning the dishes of the area are packed full of fresh flavours.
The town of Torreilles dates back to the 11th Century, and offers free tours and guides who will show you the fascinating history of the area. Visitors to Torreilles will find plenty to explore further afield. The larger town of Perpignan is just a 20 minute drive away and is the ideal place to spend a day wandering through its streets, admiring the tall town houses and its pretty river. Top sights include the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, which is a large restored fort home to some incredible architecture, the Cathédrale St Jean, which is beautiful from the inside and outside, and the Castillet, which often hosts art exhibitions. Slightly further afield Argelès Sur Mer offers a beautiful beach, backed by lush green mountains and stretching out for miles. Here guests can enjoy a day at the beach, with water sports and activities galore. Try sailing, wind surfing, banana boat rides and more, or simply relax on the sand. The marina is the ideal place to spend the evening, with restaurants and bars where guests can dine al fresco overlooking the yachts and fishing boats, or enjoy a crisp glass of wine as the sun sets.
For a day trip into Spain, Girona is an hour and a half's drive away and offers a lively, bustling atmosphere, a pretty river area and plenty of history and culture to be explored. Wander through the cobbled streets, admiring ancient buildings mixed in with tall merchant houses, explore the magnificent churches, or wander through the Jewish quarter and soak in the culture of the area. Torreilles is ideally placed for those who enjoy delicious food. Its close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea means there are some incredible seafood options on offer, with freshly caught sea bass, sole, tuna, octopus and more, while the nearby arable farmland offers fresh accompaniments to go with it. The nightlife in Torreilles is quiet, with a few bars and restaurants staying open late into the evenings. Le Chiringuito is right on the beach and its open air feel fits with its delicious cocktails, beers and wines served up by the friendly staff.
As a small town, there are not many childcare options in Torreilles, although the tourist office has a list of local trusted babysitters. Madame Vacances' Résidence Le Mas de Torreilles offers baby beds and high chairs for those travelling with the family.
